Good day membership,
We are pleased to announce Cowessess FN is embarking on a new approach as to how we will handle our recyclable items. The Public Works Department will be doing a pilot study to determine the support for a full scale recycling program on the Nation. We will require the participation of at least 10% of our homes on reserve. This equates to the participation of 25 households .
The Lands Department, in conjunction with Public Works, will purchase two recycling bins for each of the 25 homes. Once the participants receive the bins, we will allow at least two weeks for them to fill the bins with their recyclable items. We hope to have a recycling collection day every 2nd Wednesday but will adjust if necessary. For this pilot study, we will collect and empty the bins, but once the study is complete in three months, we will evaluate the results to determine how to best move forward.
If you are a Cowessess on-reserve resident who wishes to participate in the recycling pilot program and receive two bins please call the Water Plant at 696-2330, Mon-Fri between the hours of 8-4:30. We will accept the first 25 callers who are interested.
In addition to the pilot recycling program, the Roads Department will accept your vehicle’s used oil and filters at their shop across from the band office. We encourage residents to make use of the big green oil tank provided to better keep our lands and waters free of contaminates.
For those who participate in our recycling and oil collection program, I thank you in advance for helping reduce our carbon footprint on Mother Earth.
